Construction continues on the Chapel of St. Elizabeth and All Military Saints in Savannah, Missouri.
The timber framing is now beginning to take on the recognizable form of the chapel. The apse has been completed, and the curved frames for the zakomaras have been fabricated and are ready for installation.
The next major step will be the upper portion of the chapel. The parish is currently coordinating with a fiberglass manufacturer for the helmet-shaped dome, drum, cross, and integrated lightning protection. A local Amish metalworking company has also been found to assist with fabrication of the curved standing-seam metal roofing. The roofing team is now working through the templating and fabrication process required for these complex rounded surfaces.
It is especially rewarding to see the architectural concept gradually become a real building — from foundation and framing to the distinctive forms of an Orthodox chapel.
